steam locomotive Camelot leaving Sheffield park station

Image
steam locomotive Camelot   'Camelot' was indeed one of the locomotives in the Southern Region's allocation of Standard 5s. The Standard 5 class was a class of steam locomotives designed by Robert Riddles for British Railways (BR) in the 1950s. They were intended to replace the older King Arthur class locomotives. The King Arthur class locomotives were being phased out, and during this transition period, a staff suggestion led to the names of the King Arthur class being transferred to the new Standard 5 engines. This allowed the names to be preserved and carried on by the newer locomotives.
