It was ordered by Count Louis Zborowski at the same time as the locomotive "Green Goddess" and was stored with her at New Romney until the construction of the line began. Northern Chief was used during the construction of the line and had the honor of hauling the first official train during the visit of the Duke of York on August 5, 1926. Initially, her history closely resembled that of No. 1 locomotive. However, in 1936, Northern Chief appeared with a tapered boiler lagging that was more pronounced than what was specified in Henry Greenly's original design. During World War II, Northern Chief performed some work but was in poor condition by 1946. To keep her operational during the first post-war season, she had to be fitted with No. 3 locomotive's boiler. After an accident at Dymchurch, she received her own re-tubed boiler. These locomotives originated from the state railway network where the first 70 locomotives built in France were put into service in 1913. On the other hand, the French army, having retained this type of locomotive for the traction of heavy artillery pieces on railways (ALVF) ordered 70 copies, which were built in Great Britain and delivered in 1916 and 1919.

Winston Churchill steam locomotive

winston Churchill steam locomotive on the romney hythe and dimchurch railway Winston Churchill  was built in 1931 by the Yorkshire Engine company for the  Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway  but originally ordered and started by the Davey Paxman company. On the 2nd of June in 1931, he broke away from his tender leaving the train near Lade, he eventually came to rest on his side on the loop near Dungeness. He was originally named  Dr. Syn  but then renamed  Winston Churchill  (UKs wartime Prime Minister) in 1948 and was sent to Toronto in Canada for an exhibition.
